Beautiful bicycle tours to the Venice Lagoon or the Rivera del Brenta
The overnight base will be at Dolo from where you can take these three routes of your choice:
ITINERARY
Tour 1 The Brenta Rivera and Malcontenta 20 Km
The itinerary to be cycled follows the course of the Naviglio Brenta from the town of Dolo, with its ancient Squero and a mill still in operation, to Fusina, where the river continues its course towards the sea. The Naviglio Brenta is still an ancient navigable stretch of the river with its moorings for the various boats that stopped near the villas of the Doges and lords of the Serenissima Repubblica Veneta. The itinerary allows you to admire some of these ancient residences along the low-traffic road on the right bank of the river. After a short stop with wine tasting, you will resume the route until you reach the majesty of the Villa Foscari, known as ‘La Malcontenta’, built by Palladio and considered one of the most famous villas of the Riviera del Brenta. There will be free time to visit the villa. We continue along the beautiful cycle route to the mouth of the Brenta.
Return to Dolo for an alternative route.
Tour 2 The Brenta Riviera and Villa Pisani – 25 km
This cycling route follows the course of the Naviglio Brenta from the town of Dolo, with its ancient Squero and a mill still in operation, to Stra near Padua, where the river continues its course towards the sea. The Naviglio Brenta is still an ancient navigable stretch of the river with its moorings for the various boats that stopped near the villas of the Doges and lords of the Serenissima Repubblica Veneta. The itinerary allows you to admire some of the ancient residences by following the low-traffic road on the right bank of the river upstream.
After a short stop with wine tasting, you will resume the route until you reach the majesty of the Villa Pisani, the most important among the villas of the Riviera del Brenta. There will be free time for those wishing to visit the villa or the park. Return to Dolo along the Rio Serraglio cycle route.
Tour 3 From the Brenta to the Piovego via Padua – 45 km
The itinerary will see us pedalling from Dolo, along the banks of the river Brenta to the Vinciane gates of Stra, a crossroads with the Piovego canal, where the river was diverted in the 19th century to prevent the waters from flooding the land from here to the sea during the cyclical flooding periods. We pass by Villa Sagredo di Vigonovo, where Galileo Galilei was a guest during his studies in Padua. Continuing along the Piovego embankment itinerary we will admire Villa Giovannelli in Noventa Padovana with its splendid staircase and then reach Padua where a dense network of cycle paths will lead us to Prato della Valle, the largest square in Europe. A stop at the Basilica di Sant’Antonio and a tasting at the ancient Caffè Pedrocchi complete our route even though there are many works of art that deserve a more in-depth visit. Returning to Via Altinate, once a Roman road leading to Altino, we pass by the Museo degli Eremitani which houses the Scrovegni Chapel painted by Giotto (advance booking is required for the visit).
Returning along the embankment route we will return to Dolo.
